Water Audit Program

A surprising variety of wild animals live along the creeks that drain your neighborhood. Blue Water Baltimore helps you keep their homes clean and healthy by taking steps to reduce the runoff from your property.
Blue Water Baltimore is committed to helping the community reduce water use and clean up the water that flows from their properties around Baltimore to our waterways and the Bay. To help you, as residents, understand the impact your land has on water quality and what you can do about it, we’ve created the Water Audit Program. Please click here to fill out our online Water Audit interest form. But wait, there’s more! Each month, Blue Water Baltimore will award a $25 gift certificate to the Herring Run Nursery to a randomly selected resident who takes part in the program. Register online, email Dana , or give us a call at 410-254-1577 x106 to watch the benefits grow!

Goal: Help property owners reduce polluted runoff from their properties.
How Can You Make The Runoff From Your Property Greener?
Most people would assume that rainwater is clean. After all, it just fell from the sky! The truth is that rain falls on dirty streets, parking lots, roofs, sidewalks and yards. When rainwater hits the ground, it picks this pollution up and carries it along on a journey through storm drains, neighborhood streams, and eventually, the Chesapeake Bay. The surprising fact is that stormwater is destroying our urban streams. Polluted runoff is the only source of pollution in the Chesapeake Bay that is still growing! While many farms and sewage treatment plants get cleaner, cities continue to dirty our water. To address this serious issue, Blue Water Baltimore has developed the Water Audit Program, an innovative incentive program that helps you significantly reduce the polluted runoff from homes, schools, churches and other buildings.
How it Works
First, register online. Once you have registered, a trained Blue Water Baltimore staff member will contact you and set up an appointment to come to your home to assess your property. We will be looking at your roof, existing vegetation, slopes, and other characteristics to determine your property’s impact on streams and the Chesapeake Bay. After our assessment, Blue Water will recommend, and work with you to implement, the most appropriate runoff reduction solutions for your property. Click on the links below to get more details about the benefits of the runoff reduction strategies.
Blue Water Baltimore will work with you to make your project a success, but the program does not require that Blue Water Baltimore be the installer and designer of your project. You may still obtain a rebate for your rain barrel, rain garden, conservation landscaping, or pavement removal project if you do the work yourself or hire a landscaping company to do it for you. Check out our list of pre-approved contractors. By hiring a pre-approved contractor, your project does not need to be reviewed before it is implemented to qualify for a rebate. If you are designing and installing yourself, or using a contractor who is not pre-approved, you need to fill out approval forms. For forms and other printable resources, check out our Audit Resources page. All properties must be registered and assessed before projects are implemented to qualify for a rebate. We want to help you make a difference! To sign up for the program or to receive more information, fill out our online registration form.
