About the Nursery

Who We Are

Herring Run Nursery is a native plant nursery specializing in trees, shrubs,  and perennial plants that are native to Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region. We offer nearly 150 species of native trees and shrubs and nearly 100 species of native flowers and grasses so that we can supply plants for a wide range of applications, from ecological restoration to residential landscape design.

We grow most of our own plants from seedlings, and what we don’t grow ourselves we purchase – as often as possible – from local nurseries. Many of our plants are grown from seed sources within the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

In additon to plants we also offer conservation landscaping design and installation with a number of landscaping practices that reduce and use rain water effectively. Our specialty is designing and installing rain gardens and rain barrels as well as converting lawns to low maintenance native landscapes.

Our Customers

We sell both retail to individuals and wholesale to landscapers, community associations, schools, and other environmental groups.
