Rain Barrel Workshops Q & A

We’re coming up on workshop season, which means it’s time to consider attending one of our Fall rain barrel workshops on either Sunday, September 7 or Sunday, October 5.  Join Blue Water Baltimore and build your own rain barrel to take home.

With a considerable discount off the standard price, our workshops are community events to help you harness rains, save on water usage, and help our streams. The cost is $ 65 per barrel, plus tax. Want more information on the workshops? Check out the list of topics we most often get questions about:

What You Get By Participating

All participants get a 60 gallon white or 55 gallon blue barrel, all parts, and instructions on how to build the barrel. Blue Water Baltimore staff provides an overview of rain barrels, the installation process, and reviews each step in the rain barrel construction process.

Participants use tools provided by Blue Water Baltimore to construct one – or several – rain barrels. You leave with a barrel ready to be installed!

Power Tool Experience

We have had attendees who had never used a drill before the workshop. It helps to have power tool experience, but a Blue Water Baltimore staff member will provide assistance as attendees complete each step of the building process. If you are willing to learn, we are willing to teach!

Getting Your Barrel Home

One rain barrel fits in the backseat of the average sized sedan. Smart cars and Mini Coopers are a bit too small to hold one.

How Many To Build

You can order and build as many barrels as you like. If building more than two, we suggest bringing a friend or family member to help with construction. Be sure you have a way of transporting them home.

After the Workshop

You leave the workshop with a rain barrel ready to be installed. We provide installation instructions during the workshop should you are interested in installing it yourself, or you could register for a free water audit. Participants in the water audit program are eligible for free rain barrel installation.
